RE: I need camping 101 help

All of the places we have stayed at, if they said electric site it also included water, just no sewer. I also have water in my fresh water tank before I leave home to use the sink and toilet while traveling during stops. Our experience, get full hookup if you can, with sewer, so cleaning out your black tank will be easy, less stress your first trips out. Lots of times there is a line with impatient people waiting behind you at the dump stations. Good Luck

RE: Self contained - probably more than you know!

Our local hospital does have a few full hook up sites behind it. They are always being used. A nice service for the patients and families.

RE: How has fuel prices effected your rv plans for next 12+ ?

No changes. Maybe eating out a little less on our trips though. Picking up more hours at work occasionally also to help with the increase in prices.

RE: Have you ever seen a more forlorn, pathetic look?

What a cutie! Enjoyed your beautiful pictures in your online album. You are so lucky to be able to go to all those places.

RE: Bake Potatoes

In the crockpot I rub the potato with margarine and poke with a fork, wrap with tinfoil and cook for around 6 hours on low or until done. I guess you can cook them on high, just a shorter time. Sweet potatoes are great also, I do not coat them in margarine, just wrap with tinfoil and bake.

RE: New To RV Camping - Please Advise....

We have no regrets with our purchase of an equalizer hitch and anti sway bars. Couldn't imagine driving without both. Makes a big difference down hills and in the wind. Worth the money, decreases my husband's stress while driving.

RE: Hook up to sewer or not?

We always go full hookup if we have a choice, even for 2-3 nights. Our grey tank rarely lasts past 1.5 days with showers and dishes before filling up. With a full hook up you can enjoy yourself and not worry about using too much water. Also less stress during emptying the tanks, no one is behind you in line, no pressure to hurry.

RE: Pesto Recipe for 4 Cheese Ravioli?

Place a tablespoon of Pesto in a small dipping bowl, mix with a little olive oil, pour some Balsamic vinegar on top. Great dip for good french or sourdough bread. No set amounts, just to the consistency and quantities that you like. Yum!

RE: Biggest back seat

Space wise we have no complaints about room with our F250 CREW CAB. Our two teenage sons have plenty of knee room and it easily sits three in the back. My only concern is that ours does not have head rests in the back seat. Also go on line to compare all the makes and models of the trucks you are interested in. The sites will list all the specs for you. Good Luck

RE: Who else doesn't have a television in their RV?

When we go on our week long camping, at the coast with a great park with lots of activities; beach, bikes, lake, game, friends, then we do not bring a TV or anything else "electronic". It is family and nature time. But if it is a shorter trip, in the spring or fall, at a park with not quite so much to do, and it is guaranteed to rain, then it is fun to bring the TV and maybe a DVD player to watch a movie at night with some popcorn.

RE: How do you handle situations like this?

I agree with most of the previous posts. First you need to have your own dogs trained to be relaxed and ignore other dogs. Again that takes time and training. Stop their escalating excitement before they even start barking, and refocus them. Also if the other person can't control their out of control, aggressive, untrained, unsocial dog, they shouldn't be walking it out in public. If I was upset enough I would nicely mention it to the offender. Good luck. PS watch The Dog Whisperer. Lots of good advice for all!

RE: cast iron

I first used oven cleaner, coated it and placed in a plastic bag for 24 hours, scrubbed with copper pad and or Sos pad, rinsed. Dried it. Then placed it in my oven in the self cleaning cycle. So easy and cleaned it great. Scrub and cleaned with water and dried again. Then seasoned it, a lot of info on Google. I put a small layer of Crisco all over my pan, placed upside down on rack with a sheet pan on lowest rack, then baked at 350 degrees for 2-3 hrs, then wiped dry with a paper towel and cooled. Works great. I reseason with more Crisco over the stove on low for 20-30 mins as needed to keep it from not sticking. Good Luck

RE: pop-up, tent campers, folding campers, camper trailer

Small lite TT is what I would recommend. If your vehicles could pull it depending on wt. Pop ups/tent trailers our work! TT are alot easier to hook up and also to break camp. More storage, quieter at night. When traveling, you can walk right in, eat, use the bathroom, very easy and convenient. We would never go back to a pop up/tent trailer. We just upgraded and bought a bigger truck so we could pull a 25 TT. Way more room, especially with dogs or company. Our next one will not be a lite TT, they tend to be not as wide and the gray and black tanks are smaller. Good Luck with your decision.

RE: Pork chops with saurkraut

I brown the pork chops, then saute some chopped onion and maybe some chopped apple, put all back in frying pan, pour can of sauerkraut over all, cover and simmer till done. Could be cooked all in a crock pot. A little salty, but tasty. I'm not sure about how much liquid to put in the crock pot if any. Good Luck

RE: drycamping for the first time at the end of this summer

We can't make it past a day and a half without our gray tank filling, after using paper products and washing pots and pans and showers. We did buy a portable, wheeled gray tank container, around 25 gallons, for our last trip without sewer hook up. Very expensive, heavy when full, you can pull it and dump. Not sure if it would work in your situation. If you search on RV.net I think some people rigged up a sewer hose to a large bucket to dump their gray tank, a lot cheaper then a portable unit. Good Luck

RE: Simple and easy foods

Crockpot meals are great. An example is a good taco soup, just cook up the hamburger and onions at home and then freeze. I also marinate meats in a lg zip lock bag, and then freeze and transport in the fridge/cooler, helping keep everything else cool. An easy first meal is canned beans, vegi tray and hotdog's over the fire, no prep. Good Luck
